Short (≤ 2 h)Traditional Craft Workshop
Meet a local artisan and try your hand at a traditional craft — weaving, henna or simple jewellery-making.

The Amazigh (often called Berber) peoples have lived in North Africa for thousands of years. This half-day encounter, led by a local guide, introduces you to their language, symbols, crafts and hospitality in the communities around Merzouga.
Your guide — usually from the area — starts with the basics: the Tamazight language and its Tifinagh script, now official in Morocco, and the symbols you’ll see on rugs, jewellery and doorways. You’ll hear how villages around Erg Chebbi have adapted to desert life, from oasis irrigation to earthen architecture.
The encounter can include a visit to a weaver or jeweller, mint tea with a host family, and a short walk through a village or palm grove. The exact programme depends on who is available and willing to welcome guests on the day. We never promise access to private homes, and every host is paid fairly for their time.
This is a conversation rather than a performance. Ask questions, learn a few words of Tamazight, and please ask before photographing anyone. Crafts may be offered for sale; buying is always optional.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
We confirm these details in your written quote:

Many people prefer ‘Amazigh’ (plural Imazighen), meaning ‘free people’. You’ll hear both; your guide will explain.
Not necessarily. It depends on families’ wishes on the day. We never promise access, and hosts are fairly compensated.
