One person drives while the other navigates — and you can swap at a stop. Buggies are wider and heavier than quads, so routes are chosen to suit them, with fewer tight turns on steep faces.
Following your guide, you head into designated dune areas near Erg Chebbi, climbing gentle slopes and running along valleys between dunes. On a two-hour trip there is time to reach a viewpoint over the higher crests, with the erg reaching about 150 m at its highest. Safety, ages & accessibility
Buggy rides run only in designated or permitted areas, away from desert camps, villages and grazing herds. Every rider receives a safety briefing before setting off, and a helmet, goggles and a scarf (cheche) are provided — exact equipment to be confirmed with the operator at booking. Minimum ages for drivers and passengers are set by the operator and must be confirmed in advance (as a common reference, solo drivers are often 16+, with younger passengers riding alongside an adult — please confirm). No alcohol before or during the activity. Not recommended during pregnancy or for anyone with back or neck problems, as dune terrain is bumpy. In summer we schedule rides for early morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours. Seatbelts must be worn at all times. We stick to established tracks and permitted zones to limit noise and erosion, keep clear of wildlife and nomad camps, and carry out all litter.
