Half dayPrivate Desert Picnic in Erg Chebbi
Rugs, cushions and a Moroccan spread set out in a quiet hollow of the dunes — just for your group.

Picture a low table set on carpets in a sheltered hollow of golden sand, with nothing around you but ridges of dune. This proposed experience brings a relaxed, private picnic to Erg Chebbi, timed for the softest light of the day. This is a proposed signature concept — every element is subject to confirmation by our team when you enquire, depending on season, weather and local availability.
Proposed experience. This is an original concept we are developing. It is not yet a fixed product — ask us whether it can be arranged for your dates and group, and we will confirm exactly what is possible.
Who it’s for: Couples, families and small groups who want an unhurried, private moment in the dunes — ideal for a celebration, a proposal or simply a slow afternoon.
The idea is simple: we take you a short distance into the dunes by 4x4, camel or on foot — depending on what suits you — to a spot chosen for its shelter and view on the day. Our team would set out rugs, cushions and shade, so the picnic feels comfortable rather than improvised, and leave you space to enjoy it.
The menu is planned around Moroccan picnic food that travels well in the heat: fresh bread, seasonal salads, dates, nuts, fruit and something sweet, with mint tea brewed on the spot. Dietary needs can be discussed in advance, and the exact menu is confirmed at booking.
Timing matters in the Sahara. In warmer months a late-afternoon picnic that rolls into sunset is far more pleasant than midday; in winter a late-morning picnic in the sunshine can be lovely. We would suggest the best slot for your travel dates.
Because the dunes are a shared landscape, we would always choose a respectful spot, keep the setup simple and take every scrap of rubbish away with us.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
We confirm these details in your written quote:
The picnic takes place a short distance into the dunes; walking on soft sand can be tiring, so mention any mobility needs and we will suggest the easiest access. In summer, heat can be intense — late-afternoon timing, water and sun protection are essential. If a camel ride is included, it is not advised for people with back problems or during pregnancy. Strong wind or sandstorms may require the picnic to be moved, shortened or rescheduled.
Contact us for a price. Every trip is priced for your dates, group size, tour type and accommodation level. Send us your plan on WhatsApp or by email and we will send you the price. [TO CONFIRM: payment method (e.g. bank transfer), deposit amount and balance deadline]. A booking is confirmed only after we confirm availability and payment arrangements in writing. We never ask for card details on this website.
It is a proposed concept rather than a fixed departure. Tell us your dates and group, and our team will confirm what can be arranged, adapt the plan if needed and send you a written proposal with the price on request.
Yes, that is one of the ideas behind it. Share what you have in mind and our team will confirm which decorations or extras can be arranged.
Generally yes, as the setting is short and relaxed. We would adapt timing and food for younger children — let us know their ages when you enquire.
