Short (≤ 2 h)Family Camel Experience in Merzouga
A shorter, slower camel ride designed around children, with time to play in the sand.

Children see the desert as the biggest sandpit in the world — and they are right. This proposed experience turns Erg Chebbi into a playful classroom, with short activities, plenty of breaks and room for curiosity. This is a proposed signature concept — every element is subject to confirmation by our team when you enquire, depending on season, weather and local availability.
Proposed experience. This is an original concept we are developing. It is not yet a fixed product — ask us whether it can be arranged for your dates and group, and we will confirm exactly what is possible.
Who it’s for: Families with children (roughly 5–12, younger on request) who want a gentle, playful introduction to the desert at a child-friendly pace.
The afternoon would start with a short camel ride sized for young riders, with a handler leading each camel. Next comes sandboarding on low, gentle slopes chosen for beginners — sitting down is perfectly acceptable.
A guide then leads a short nature trail: spotting beetle and lizard tracks, finding desert plants and learning how people and animals cope with heat and little water. Depending on the season, birds such as desert sparrows may be about.
As the light fades, everyone gathers for mint tea or juice and a simple story about the stars. On an overnight version at a family-friendly camp, the stargazing continues after dinner — moon and weather permitting.
Everything is paced for children, with shade and snacks, and can be shortened if little legs tire.
Timings shift with the season (sunrise and sunset change by more than two hours across the year).
We confirm these details in your written quote:
Children should be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Minimum ages for camel riding and sandboarding are set by the operator — to be confirmed at booking. Sandboarding takes place on gentle slopes only. Camel rides and sandboarding are not suitable for anyone with back problems or during pregnancy, so accompanying adults should consider this too. Heat and sun are the main risks: hats, sunscreen and water are essential, and summer timings stay late in the day.
