ITINERARY OF 4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FEZ TO MARRAKECH

DAY 1: FES - MIDDLE ATLAS - ZIZ VALLEY – MERZOUGA

Start your travel through the desert from Fez to Marrakech early in the morning with a pickup from your riad. Before continuing to the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you will have the opportunity to see several Barbary monkeys in the cedar forest of Azrou, leave the city and drive to Ifrane, where you will stay for approximately fifteen minutes and possibly have a cup of coffee.

Drive through Midelt and along the Ziz Valley to get to Merzouga (a valley full of palm trees). Arriving in the evening to Merzouga. Reside in a lovely riad.

DAY 2: FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE SAHARA DESERT

The start of your Merzouga desert excursion day will come after a satisfying breakfast in your riad. First, you’ll travel to Khamlia, a small village in southern Africa, where you may hear the people perform a distinctive form of music known as Gnawa. Second, take an off-road route to M’Fis, an abandoned settlement with Galena mines nearby. Galena is a mineral that was once used to make Mascara. Next, pay a visit to a nomadic family that live close to the borders behind the Erg Chebbi Dunes and have a cup of tea with them in one of their typical Berber tents. There is also an opportunity to learn about a group of ethnic people who decided to live a nomadic lifestyle apart from civilizations. You can eat a Berber pizza for lunch today.

You will ride camels across Merzouga’s high dunes in the evening to get to your camp. As soon as you arrive, you can try sandboarding while taking in a stunning sunset.

After dinner, you will unwind around a bonfire while gazing up at the stars. The camp staff will play the drums for you and is always willing to demonstrate for you.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA - TODRA GORGES - BOUMALNE DADES

If you get up early enough today, you’ll have the opportunity to see an amazing sunrise. Following a sumptuous breakfast, you will travel through the gorges of Rissani, Erfoud, the oasis of Tinghir, and Todra on your way to Boumalne. There will be a lot of stops along the road. Dinner and a hotel room in Boumalne for the night.

DAY 4: BOUMALNE GORGE - AIT BEN HADDOU - THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS - MARRAKECH

You will travel to Ouarzazate after breakfast at the accommodation through the Road of 1000 Kasbahs. You can either visit the Atlas Studios or just take some exterior pictures here. See the Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which served as the backdrop for the filming of a number of well-known movies, including Gladiator.

You will drive to Marrakech after lunch, passing via the High Atlas Mountains. During the trip, you’ll pass by a lot of Moroccan Berber settlements.
